This is no secret or nothing to be ashamed about. Everyone has bad breath every once in while in their life. It’s very common in everyday society.

But that does not mean you should just accept it and live with it. You can use apple cider vinegar for bad breath.

I have plenty of times over the years and I will say. It is just as good if not better than Listerine.

We will get into that later on in the article. Let’s get right to it.

Bad breath can be extremely embarrassing. Especially if someone calls you out on it.

It’s best to nip it in the butt as soon as you wake up or notice it.

But it may not just go away after a quick brushing of the teeth and even quicker shot of mouthwash.

Before I get into how Apple cider vinegar can kill bad breath. Let’s break down what causes bad breath in the first place.

Here are a few things that are known to cause bad breath.

  • Gingivitis
  • Periodontitis
  • Tonsil Stones
  • Tonsillitis
  • Dental Abscess
  • Tobacco Products
  • Poor Dental Hygiene
  • Dry Mouth
  • Infections In Your Mouth
  • Certain Foods – Onions, Eggs, Mayonaise etc.

All of these things will cause you to have bad breath. Some more severely than others.

Gum doesn’t kill bad breath. It just simply masks it for a moment.

That’s like you not taking a bath day after day. But you still continue to put on deodorant and fresh clothes.

All your doing is masking the stench. It will soon become too strong and you will have to take a bath to deal with it.

Same applies to bad breath. Gum isn’t the solution. It’s only going to mask the odor for so long. So then there is ACV.

How Does Apple Cider Vinegar Help With Bad Breath

Apple cider vinegar has a ton of healthy things in it that you can benefit from. I used it for weight loss and my diabetes back in 2003.

It wasn’t easy or a quick fix. But it got the job done.

With knowing that it did/can fix such major issues like those two. It is a no brainer to me that it’ll swat bad breath like a fly.

It does just that too. The acids in apple cider vinegar kills the bacteria on your teeth, gums, and tongue.

All of which is causing you to have bad breath. It could also come from your stomach. I will let you know how to take it for each.

It did for me. I use to wake up in the morning with awful morning breath. I mean it was dreadful.

I did some research and digging and found that ACV could help with my bad breath. I was like yea right.

Whatever I’m gone use this Listerine and chew my orbit gum and ill be fine. It worked for a minute or two.

But the smell would soon come back. I was like now wait a minute. What am I doing wrong?

As I’m thinking this to myself. There on the counter sits my Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar.

I took it in the same cap on my Listerine bottle. Just a half cap. It didn’t burn like what I’m used to. It felt smooth and soothing. It still had the sour taste that ACV has.

But after I swished it around my mouth for about 2 minutes. I then spit it out and I could feel my mouth refreshed.

It was like I knew that the ACV has gotten rid of all the junk in my mouth. I then checked my breath. I smelled it and it was great.

It didn’t have an odor at all. But I expected that right after I just took the ACV.

Seeing how long it was gone stick was what I really wanted to find out. So later on that day.

When I took it it was around 8 am. It was now 4 pm. I checked it again and it was still excellent.

Now I was moved a bit. Because around this time. The smell would usually be a bit funky by now.

But it wasn’t and it had my attention at this point. I ate and had drunk a few drinks and all that. I then went to bed I had work the next day.

I took the ACV before I went to sleep though. My wife and I had a dinner date that day.

So when I woke up the next day. I was like well back to the basics and prepared myself to smell this horrendous stench.

I smelt my breath and it wasn’t fresh. But it wasn’t awful either. I was like well I’m sold. I have been using ACV for my bad breath ever since.

How To Take ACV For Bad Breath

You will simply want to take it just as you would with traditional mouthwash. Cause in a way that’s what it is for the time being.

After you brush your teeth take a half cap full of apple cider vinegar and swish it around your mouth for about 2 minutes.

If you want or feel the need to you can go back over your teeth one more time to brush them.

Some say that the ACV hurts your teeth enamel. If you are one of those who believes that or just have some weird phobia that it does that.

Then go back over your teeth with toothpaste afterward it’s no big deal. I have been doing this for around 5 years and I’ve never noticed anything funny or negative about my teeth health.

Everyone is different so your case may not be like mine.

If you feel the bad odor is coming from your stomach. You can find this out when you burp.

If you burp and the odor is terrible. Your stomach may be the source of where the bad breath you have is coming from. To fix this you will want to drink a cup of ACV.

  • Fill the cup with water
  • 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of organic honey
  • Warm or Cold will be fine. This is optional and totally up to you

This will surely kill the bacteria in your stomach causing the odor. Do this daily or until you notice that the smell is gone or has gotten better.

That is it. You know have the information you need to kill the bad breath odor. If the first time doesn’t work keep going until it does.

The ACV acids won’t let it live in its presence. The bacteria that causes bad breath cannot live in an acidic environment.

With you drinking ACV which has acid in it. You will be making it virtually impossible for it to stay there and survive.

I thank you and appreciate you stopping by my site. I hope you learned some very valuable information and use it to better your situation.

  1. Thanks for sharing this information. Didn’t know that ACV can do so much in terms of personal hygiene. I am not a fan of ACV but my mom is. She has been using it as a form to detox. I shall inform her of another advantage of using ACV.

    Keep Sharing!

  2. Hi there

This is a great post and will be very helpful to a lot of people with this embarrassing issue or complaint. I have always thought and said that natural cures are the best remedy for complaints such as these and you have just proven my point.

The great thing about this natural remedy is, it doecost the earth and saves a lot of money for people, not having to go to their GP and then being further referred on to another specialist, which again may cost a lot more money. Natural is always best, I say.

Cheers and thanks again for posting

    1. Thank you Phil, for your comment. I agree 100%. Nature has everything we need in it for anything that can cause our body issues. All we have to do is find them and use it accordingly

  3. I honestly never would have thought of this, though I probably should have given the way ACV seems to be recommended to help with just about everything…

When you use it as a mouthwash, do you find that the taste lingers? Does it affect the taste of things that you eat or drink afterwards?

Also, forgive me for asking, but when you test your breath to measure the length of effectiveness, do you have someone check it for you, or do you go by your own perceptions? Because sometimes what is perfectly tolerable to yourself isconsiderably less so for others.

    Thanks for the info.

    1. The taste does linger a little nothing stomach cringing though.

You can tell when your breath is funky or not. I hope we all have enough honesty in us to address that when it is present. If your breath is bad and you don’t notice it. Someone will and most of the time they will let you know about it.

I check my own and go from there. But some people may handle things differently like you mentioned
